Thirteen members of “Team Cooney” comprised of employees, friends, and family of Cooney Brothers Inc., a value-added distributor of Pipe, Valves and Fittings, participated in the American Cancer Society’s Bike-A-Thon. The team raised more than $10,000 for the fight against cancer.

Cooney Brothers participated in its 14th Bike-A-Thon benefiting the American Cancer Society. Starting in Philadelphia, PA at the foot of the Ben Franklin Bridge, all 13 members of “Team Cooney” rode their committed distances, with the majority biking the full 66 miles to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where the ride finished on the boardwalk and beach.’

This annual event marked its 45th year in 2017. The Bike-A-Thon hosts a variety of ways to honor cancer survivors: from the blue ribbon cutting ceremony at the start, to special blue rider bibs, survivors and caregivers were invited to be recognized on stage at the Survivors Ceremony during the event wrap-up.  Over 3,000 riders typically participate in the regional Philadelphia event, raising about $1.5 million dollars.

Cooney Brothers raised over $10,000 for the American Cancer Society, vastly exceeding its initial fundraising goal of $6,000.

Team Caption and Cooney Brothers President, Gerry Cooney, said: “All of us have been affected by cancer in our lives. It’s hard to describe the fun and camaraderie that’s associated with this annual event. Our Team Cooney members love to ride and that’s part of what motivates us to get involved, but there is most certainly something bigger going on here.”
